Through the use of contrasting materials, textures, and finishes, my work aims to create objects that feel alive and invite interaction, curiosity, and connection. My approach begins with material experimentation, which I then allow to guide the design towards often expressive, fantastical, and tactile forms.
Moving Heat
Moving Heat exists in a state suspended between eruption and stillness. Its legs, mimicking the porous texture and deep blackness of fragmented magma, envelop the tabletop. Flame painted and engine turned, the copper surface appears to absorb heat from the darkened forms beneath it. Silver and blue hues emerge at points of contact, dispersing into vibrant pinks and oranges as the heat appears to move through the material. Residual warmth seems to escape as light, shifting in tone and brightness as you move around the object.
The table becomes a study of transfer and balance: heat moving between materials, light dancing across surfaces and mass balancing against light. Throughout the piece, material is treated as being alive, capable of transformation and holding memories. Each surface carries the marks of its making. Shifting reflections and uneven textures allow the piece to feel constantly in motion, changing with light and perspective. What could easily appear heavy and fixed, instead feels momentary, as though the table has been caught mid transformation and frozen in time.
